Kamryn Wheeler
Vocal Teacher
Music has always been an integral part of Kamryn’s life. During her secondary education, she developed a passion for music through private vocal lessons and involvement in various choral and operatic programs.
Kamryn completed her undergraduate education at Abilene Christian University, where she further explored opera, choir, and solo singing before pursuing graduate school at Texas State University. She earned her Masters of Music in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy. Ms. Wheeler sees herself as a lifelong learner and is actively seeking to enhance her vocal education outside of the university setting through private study and young artist programs.
During her undergraduate studies, Kamryn had the chance to study and perform various roles including Helene in the world premiere of Chumbley’s “Hidden Jewel,” the Mother in Menotti’s classic Christmas opera “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” Cherubino in Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro,” and Hansel in an abridged outreach production of Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel” with Abilene Christian University’s Opera Workshop. While attending graduate school, she performed the role of Amastre in Handel’s “Xerxes” with Texas State University’s Opera Theater and performed the roles of La Badessa in Puccini’s “Suor Angelica” and La Ciesca in Puccini’s “Gianni Schicchi” during her time at La Musica Lirica. Kamryn also gained valuable performance experience through solo work, preparing and performing her graduate recital in the spring of 2023, and participating in the “Opera Under the Stars” Concert as part of the CMI/OPERA San Antonio Collegiate Voice Program in the summer of 2023. She is actively seeking to network and collaborate with artists in the DFW Metroplex and beyond. In November, she performed alongside various artists to present the world premiere of the fourth act of Felicity Mazur-Park’s opera “The Seagull,” which adapts Anton Chekhov’s thought-provoking play of the same name into the sonic landscape of contemporary opera.
